Maribyrnong Park Football Club has taken a significant step in recognising the outstanding contributions of its women players. The club recently unveiled a new scoreboard named in honor of Faith Considine and Theresa Munro, two remarkable women who contribute so much to the club and the wider football community. This announcement not only celebrates their contributions and achievements but also highlights the growing recognition of women’s roles in Australian football and the wider community.

Honoring Two Trailblazers in Women’s Football
Faith Considine and Theresa Munro have been pillars of strength and inspiration at Maribyrnong Park Football Club. Their dedication, skill, and leadership have helped elevate the club’s profile and encouraged more women to participate in the sport. Naming the scoreboard after them is a fitting tribute that immortalises their legacy.

A bit of background...
The new scoreboard is a dream come true for many people. It’s a dream for anyone who ever had to operate the old manual scoreboard, trying to work out on the run which pieces to flip to turn a 3 into a 9. It’s a dream for those who believed “the women’s oval” should have an electronic scoreboard like “the men’s oval”. And it’s especially a dream realised for Tony Jaycock, former Club Secretary, who three years ago put together a $25,000 grant proposal to the AFL Community Infrastructure Fund to make it happen. Tony’s work was detailed, persuasive, and ultimately successful.
Getting the grant and buying the scoreboard were only the beginning. We still needed to get it installed, connected to power, and operational. The plan was straightforward: obtain quick approval from Moonee Valley City Council, given we were effectively funding and installing a community asset on council land.
But as Mike Tyson once said, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the head. Our “punch” came in the form of council requiring full planning and building permits – no waivers, no shortcuts.
That meant raising and spending close to another $15,000 on engineering studies, geological reports, archaeological research, and approvals, all to install a scoreboard on a sporting ground, in close proximity to another scoreboard on another sporting ground.
While we worked through the council process, a fantastic group of Marby volunteers came together to plan and prepare for installation as soon as approvals came through. At the same time, generous Marby benefactors stepped in with donations to close the funding gap.
The end result is a fantastic new scoreboard on Walsh Oval, already tested during recent practice matches. Its first junior football match will be at 11.00am on Sunday 12 April, when our U12 girls take on Ascot Vale in Round 1 of the 2026 season.
The official opening took place at 1.30pm on Saturday 25 April, whre our senior women hosted Doutta Stars. This was a huge day of community football coinciding with the recognition of ANZAC Day and our veterans who served.

Thank you's....
Please join the Maribyrnong Park Football & Netball Club in thanking the following people and businesses for their contributions:
Simon Fitzgerald and Invicium for taking delivery of and storing the scoreboard
Bianca McBride and Nurse Generation, Judy Maddigan, Michael Tamburro, and Tony Fisher for financial support in closing the funding gap
Rob Purcell for securing additional grant funding from Moonee Valley City Council and Essendon Fields
Steve Scicluna for preparing and navigating the planning and building permit approvals
Luke Livingston, Dave McMahon, and OCC for organising trades, preparing the site, and installing the scoreboard – including heavy work on a very hot day
Bernie Hourigan and Highrise Scaffolding & Gantries for transporting and installing the scoreboard
James Condos and 27th Avenue Construction for excavating the electrical trench
JP Kavanagh, Ascot Group for helping with the building licence.
Dave Harry at Delcon Civil team for sending the excavator to dig the piers.
Matt Pearce and Watt Electrical Group for connecting the power supply
James Martino and Level Up Electrical for completing the controller box works (with special thanks to apprentices and Marby players Tom Coughlan, Devon Hug, and Eddie Bray)
Funding, buying, and delivering this scoreboard was a true “it takes a village” effort, and a great example of the Marby community at its best.
